“LOSING WEIGHT IS HARD.”
It really doesn’t have to be. Honestly! It only takes a few changes in your diet to lose weight, and I’ll share with you the easiest ways to do it.
I’ll always remember one thing that my freshman psychology teacher told us — he said, “Let’s say you eat a bowl of ice cream everyday for years. The moment you take that away from your everyday routine is the moment you’ll begin to lose weight.” Don’t ask me why my psychology teacher told us that — I don’t remember! Lol.
Anyway, his point was that even taking away one “bad” thing you consume everyday will help you lose weight. And at the same time, one exercise a day will help as well. Let’s say you don’t normally exercise at all... Then, you begin simply going for a 30 minute power walk everyday — you will lose weight.
If you’re wondering wth I’m even getting at, in short: get off your ass and do the slightest activity your body isn’t used to and stop eating out of control.
You could be where you want to be by making small adjustments. How quick you get there is determined by how willing you are to make more adjustments!
If you ever found it extremely hard to lose weight and you’ve tried your hardest without seeing much result, then I would suggest visiting a doctor to discuss your experience. There are certain health-related issues that could cause one not to be able to lose weight! Especially hormonal disorders... So I would see a doctor and see where they refer you to if that’s an unfortunate problem you’ve been having. There is light at the end of the tunnel!
DIET IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN EXERCISE.
It’s a rule of thumb! Weight loss is generally 75% diet and only 25% exercise. This doesn’t go to say that you shouldn’t care about working out, because that’s obviously still necessary for you to lose weight, but dieting is so crucial if you want any type of weight loss to work. And in my opinion, dieting is much harder than exercising. When things get hard, just think how much it would suck to waste that awesome workout you had earlier before wasting it on a brownie that will only leave you feeling guilty and you know it.
Also keep in mind — everyone’s different. You might not do well on diets that give a lot of leeway and give you options to eat whatever you want. I suck at diets like that! I’ll find myself saying, “Just a few fries won’t hurt...” And then you’ll find me eating a whole burger with it. Personally, I need restriction and calorie limits. I need a specific goal and pressure. I need to basically cut it out completely or it won’t work well for me. That’s part of the reason I decided to give up rice, pasta, potatoes, and bread completely for 18 straight days. Also, putting an amount of days sometimes help with challenging yourself and not quitting. It works best for me. But like I said, everyone’s different. You should know yourself by now and know what your weaknesses and strengths are. So after reading this blog, you should know which one would pair best with you.
THE BIGGEST REMINDERS TO GIVE YOURSELF.
Before we talk about different ways on losing weight, let’s point out a few reminders that will help you stay on track.
WAYS TO LOSE WEIGHT.
I’ve been into health and fitness for about 6 whole years now, so I know a thing or two because I’ve seen a thing or two (if ya know, ya know). I’ve tried it all! I’ve went on plenty of different diets and I know what works best.
Please note, I am not specialized or licensed in any of this — everything is based off my own experience and knowledge that I’ve gained throughout several years. I do recommend you to talk to your doctor before trying any diets, if needed, before beginning any to see what works best for you. ❤️
1. CUT DOWN ON CARBS. 🍞
When I say carbs, I mean potatoes, bread, rice, and pasta. The simplest way to lose weight, in my opinion, is to cut down on these carbs. These carbs are what makes you feel bloated and literally twice your size! It doesn’t feel good. Here’s a few ways to do this:
No matter the way you do it, if you’re used to eating carbs everyday, you’ll lose that weight. And you’ll definitely feel less bloated!
2. LIMIT YOUR SUGAR. 🍭
Sugar is my best friend. I love her, she’s so sweet. But she’s a snake and you can’t be that close with a snake. Personally, I can’t get rid of sugar in my life. It’s impossible and inevitable. I’m a coffee drinker and there’s no way in hell I’ll ever drink coffee without it. Sorry!
If you could remove sugar completely, awesome. Do it! You’ll see great results. But if you’re like me and sugar is your fake best friend, then there are ways to limit yourself:
3. SWITCHING TO WHOLESOME FOODS. 🥦
Let’s be frank, there are tons of fake crap out there that claim to be healthy and that do you well. Don’t listen to them. If you could cut out all foods that are genetically engineered, filled with bad chemicals, and have preservatives, you could make a big change in your life. Only eat WHOLESOME FOODS meaning vegetables, fruits for dessert, basic starches, salads, and so on. You cut out fast food and chips, candy bars, and everything else that’s processed, fake, and filled with corn syrup, natural flavors, and artificial flavors. Get used to reading the ingredients list! If you see natural flavors, artificial flavors, red, blue, yellow, corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, and a different list of oils, stay away from it. These foods literally have chemicals in them that makes us gain wait and that actually makes us crave more to help them make more money! Not to mention a lot of the products found in grocery stores have cancerous chemicals. Be conscious of what you consume and always try to go organic and eat wholesome foods. Stay away from canned foods, typical snacks, granola bars, cereals, and all that. I always refer people to @thefoodbabe on IG. She is so knowledgeable on this stuff! Check her out.
4. CALORIE COUNTING. 📝
Calorie counting is my absolute favorite way to diet! It’s the only way I know I’m losing weight for sure. It gives me confidence and reassurance, and it also keeps your ass in check. Back in 2013, I weighed myself to be 149 pounds. I could not see the scale hit 150, so I went on a calorie counting diet (combined with exercise) for a few months and lost 21 pounds! It’s the best. But you also have to watch what calories you’re eating, obviously. If you have a 1,200 calorie limit, eating an 800 calorie cheesecake won’t benefit you even though it’s under your calorie limit — it’s still unhealthy!
It’s easier to count calories than you think. I’ve always used MyFitness Pal app since the beginning. I’m currently using it for my 18 Day Cleanse! It’s very easy to use and you can simply search what you’re eating and you’ll find the calories in them. You first enter your current weight, age, activity level, height, and your goal weight. Then, it’ll calculate how many calories you should eat per day along with other things like daily fat, carb, and sugar intake. It’s super helpful and keeps you on your game!
*You can easily use healthy lifestyles 1 through 4 together (or a combination of them) — that’s basically what I do on my cleanse! After my cleanse, I’ll go back to eating one carb (bread, pasta, rice, potato) in one meal per day or maybe every few days*
5. FIVE-BITE DIET. 🍔
This diet is crazy, but doable. I’ve done it twice and the results are crazy fast (I lost 8 pounds in a week)! So this is the kind of diet you go on when you really need to fit into a dress or something along those lines. I’ll let you know it’s not a change in a healthy lifestyle, but it’s a quick way to lose some weight fast. But could you handle it?
This is basically what it is: You have two meals per day and it could be anything you want in the world — a hot dog, burger, slice of pizza, pasta, gyros, you name it. The catch is in the name... You could only have 5 bites. And I’m not talking about average bites — I’m talking about whatever you can fit in your mouth bite! You could drink water and coffee throughout your day as normal, but you have to only have 10 whole bites of food in your entire day! So here are a few tips:
This diet is kind of hard, tbh. But you get used to it after a few days! The results are quick and you really just have to stay full off water and stuff food in your mouth like you never have before! Lol.
6. KETO. 🧀
The hottest diet around. I’m sure you hear people talk about this diet often and probably know a few people on it! Personally, I don’t think this diet is a realistic way of living. It seems to be more of a temporary, one-month challenge kind of thing. Once you stop and go back to a normal lifestyle with carbs and sugar here and there, you’ll gain back what you’ve lost. Also, it’s easier to want to quit a diet that’s so strict. I won’t lie, though — it’s a great diet since your body will be burning actual fat since it’ll barely have any carbs to use it’s energy for. So, you are targeting the fat! But to me, like no sugar in my coffee? That stops me right there. If you could do absolutely no sugar and under 15-30 grams of carbs a day (carbs as in the ones in vegetables, berries, etc), then go for it. But it’s not something the average human being can last on without becoming depressed or starved, in my opinion. Sure, do it for a month to fit in a dress. Why not! But don’t plan for it to be a change in your lifestyle. I simply prefer to make healthier choices — cut out starchy carbs such as bread, rice, pasta, potatoes, and still be able to have sugar in my coffee and a sweet treat here and there. Outside of this 18 Day Cleanse, I would normally allow myself to eat one meal with a starchy carb per day and no sweets, except something that’s very low in calories. That’s a lifestyle you could keep your whole life. Not Keto... But if you could, then I’m sure you’ll break a world record!
7. INTERMITTENT FASTING. ☕️
My husband has been doing this for about a year now. It’s a great lifestyle to live and honestly very realistic for a new and improved lifestyle. Here’s the breakdown: You basically fast for majority of the 24 hour day, but majority of that is while you sleep. The average person on this diet will fast from 8:00 pm to 12:00 pm the next afternoon. In this time, your body is basically burning your fat for energy instead of the calories you’re eating! The only things you can consume during this fasting time period is water and black coffee, since both are zero calories. If you drink coffee with sugar or cream, it simply won’t work because you’re putting calories in your system. Anyway — throughout the 8 hour span you could eat, you have much more leeway than any other diet. You could typically eat like the average human being would — you could have carbs, sugar, or whatever it is, but just not too much of it. You’ll still want to be on a calorie restriction to keep yourself in control. So for example, you put yourself on a 1,300 calorie limit. You have 8 hours to consume only that! And keep in mind — the average person gets hungry every 2-4 hours, so if you only have 8 hours to eat, you won’t be eating that much to begin with, especially when your body adjusts to it. So overall, here’s the gist:
8. MAKING BETTER CHOICES. 🍎
Lastly, you could just choose to screw all 7 other diets and just simply make better choices! Going this route will make you feel like you’re not really on a diet and you’re just being conscious of what you eat. Here are a few different ways to make better choices:
THAT’S ALL, FOLKS.
These are the 8 best ways to lose weight and some of the fastest ways, too. Before choosing one to follow, do a few things:
Doing one of these diets or the other will help you lose weight, even if it’s just cutting out sugar in your coffee or the amount of rice you eat at dinner. Just be consistent and get some exercise in as well, even if it’s just a 30 minute power walk. As long as you make at least one adjustment in your life, you’re bound to see change. Even if it’s that bowl of ice cream you eat everyday! ☺️
