For starters, let me be real with you. 😌
I’m not the greatest at dieting. When life gets stressful and super busy, it’s truly hard for me to reject the cupcakes that are being sold at work or when my mom cooks diwali. I’m a sucker for good food... I mean, look at my website! I LOVE to cook and bake... and I love to eat it all too. I feel like it’s a sin if my mom or MIL cooks my favorite fattening meals and I don’t eat it ALL.
The truth is, when I’m stressed out from work, school, coaching, and all these other things in my life, I really just want to enjoy my one hour I get at night to actually relax and do nothing with some comfort food. Is that so much to ask?!
And as for working out... it has gotten SO much harder for me to stay motivated or to find the time and energy to be consistent and to actually push myself while at the gym. I’ll find myself on the elliptical for 45 minutes sometimes and barely breaking a sweat. It’s because I sometimes just lose my motivation for working out since I’m always so busy doing other things. Adulting is just tiring, man. I used to go to the gym two hours a day, six days a week. Now? Maybe 3-4 days a week and for only an hour!
In moments where I’m stressed, it feels like my life is on repeat during the school year: wake up, work, coach, cook, go to gym, relax for one hour, sleep, repeat. Sometimes a girl just wants to do NOTHING and eat a whole damn pizza by herself!
BUT... I cannot be in denial any longer. I have most definitely noticed the difference in my metabolism in the last few years... It’s gotten significantly slower and I seriously have to watch what I eat before I can’t control myself!
I’m sure many of you reading this are in the same boat as me... but we can’t look for excuses anymore. Excuses will do nothing but put ourselves in the way of our success.
Lets put down the knafa (khishna) and eat some damn Greek yogurt!!!
It’s all about your mentality. 🤔
Honestly, eating healthy is all about mentality. I prefer not to say I’m dieting. I like to believe I’m changing my poor eating habits to healthy ones. I’m making healthier choices and staying away from fatty and processed foods. In my opinion, the moment you say, “I’m going on a diet,” you can easily just get off the diet as soon as it gets too hard. Instead, tell yourself you’re going to make healthier choices from now on. Don’t be too hard on yourself and just live healthier.
How to make healthier choices:
Tbh, making healthier choices is pretty easy. Here are a few things I do while creating healthy eating habits:
1. Constantly drink water! 💦
What ingredients to stay away from:
The list goes ON! Wait until you see how many chemical and cancer-causing chemicals are in the fast food chains of America compared to the same restaurants in other countries! There are ingredients allowed in food in the U.S. that are illegal to be anywhere near food in all other countries (McDonald’s 🚩)
***I suggest doing research by following @thefoodbabe on Instagram. I learned so much about the food industry and what ingredients are put in our food that are TERRIBLE for us. Just know that this country does not look out for its citizens.. only their pockets. I urge you to literally stalk her posts and you’ll find things you eat everyday filled with cancer causing chemicals. Scary, but true. SPREAD THE WORD!
Time to burn 🔥
The gym is important when maintaining a healthy lifestyle. They say it’s 25% exercise and 75% diet! Crazy, right?! I mean, it makes sense though. If our diet is terrible, the workouts we do, no matter how long or hard, will never be enough to make up for the calories we’ve eaten!
What’s Key 🔑
The best advice I could give anyone beginning a fitness journey is to start off slow. Don’t expect to be this amazing fitness girl over night. It’s not happening! And guess what? It’ll shoot your confidence. If you expect to do amazing and expect great results quick, and you don’t get them as quick as you thought, you’ll give up. So go into this slowly and don’t expect so much. Start at a pace you can handle — maybe 2 days a week at the gym or power walking, then increase it from there.
My routine 🤗
My gym routine is pretty simple. I don’t like to stress myself out or overwork myself, so I go at a pace that is enjoyable and at a pace I sweat a good amount. I aim to go to the gym 5 days a week, but sometimes that’s just impossible and I don’t beat myself up about it! Especially during the school year, I’ll go sometimes only 2 days
My typical routine:
On a nice day, I like to switch it up and go for a run in my neighborhood. Honestly, I find it much better and I enjoy it so much more than running in place on a boring treadmill! Sometimes I’ll run 3 or 4 miles and it feels amazing! It’s nice to have a change of scenery and to have the wind hit you as you run. 🏃🏻♀️
Helpful tips 👍🏼
I always found some things to be particularly helpful in keeping me going or just simply motivating me.
There are a lot of supplements out there that are great in supporting your goal. However, there are a lot that are also dangerous and not healthy. BUT, luckily with my years of experience, I know what to recommend. However, if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to become pregnant, you should always refrain from supplements. Below are the different things you could use to help assist you in your goal!
You truly just need to want to lose weight bad enough. Or maybe you just really want to avoid nasty chemical-filled foods! The most important thing is wanting to do it. If you don’t want to, if you don’t have a goal, a purpose — it’s going to be much harder. So before you begin this wonderful journey of yours, go through the following steps:
Just because you fall down, it doesn’t mean you can’t get back up and start again. If you have a setback, that’s okay, I have tons of them. But that doesn’t give me a reason to just say, “forget it.” I get back up again, motivate myself, and I keep on going. Do the same!
Take care of your bodies, ladies! There’s no going wrong in doing that. You’ll live a longer and healthier life and your older self will thank you. ❤️
