DIY: HOLLYWOOD VANITY.
When I was moving into my new home, I realized I wanted a new vanity. As I was searching for one, I couldn’t find a big enough one with the glam Hollywood lights without it being hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars... So I had this great idea of creating my own! I’m going to tell you what to do step by step so you could do one too! It’s amazing, you’ll love it and the fact it’s cheaper than most vanities makes it even more great! It takes work, but it’s worth it!
TOTAL COST: $130
I actually just utilized everything I already had to make this vanity. The only thing I bought for it were the lights off Amazon! The mirror was an old bathroom mirror from my mom’s house and the shelf was used in my old apartment underneath our TV. So I literally just bought the lights for $40, some screws, and a stool!
THINGS YOU NEED TO BUY.
Everything below can be bought at Home Depot except for the mirror lights that are on Amazon. I linked everything you need!
Note: The more the anchors and brackets hold the better. I bought anchors that hold up to 65 pounds, but I wish I found a heavier one just to be extra safe. The heavy duty brackets hold like 160 lb which is great. But be sure to read the labels on both the anchors and brackets that you find! They’ll say the weight they hold on them.

TOOLS YOU NEED.
- Electric power drill, $40
- Drill bit (the screws with anchors that I linked comes with the one you need).
- Stud finder (this will help you make sure you get the screws in the wood studs in your dry wall. If you don’t screw it in the studs, your vanity might fall).
- A measuring tape! And a laser level if you have one. If not, then try your best to make everything really even and leveled with a ruler and all. You’ll figure it out.
DIRECTIONS.
- Set your mirror down on the floor and have it in a landscape position (this is how it’ll go up). Stick on the hollywood lights all along the edges of the mirror making sure that you have the two bulbs with the plug attached to it in one of the bottom corners together, since you’ll be using two packages there will be two plugs. Also make sure you space them accordingly to fit all bulbs! Then, take all the extra wires and tap the wires behind the mirror to hide them. It’ll help if you stick the bulbs on with the wires in a position that will easily be tucked behind the mirror.
- Find your studs with the stud finder (usually 16” apart) and screw in four mirror wall mounts evenly according to the directions on the packaging. Be sure to put up the mirror high enough according to the stool or chair you’ll be using. Install two mounting clips at the top edges and two at the bottom edges. Make sure you measure them perfectly to fit the mirror in the mounts and leave at least 2 inches of space from the mount to the corners of the mirror. Carefully slide in the mirror with the help of someone.
- Now that your mirror is up, use the stud finder again to make sure you find where you should screw in your brackets. Don’t forget to leave about 2 inches of space between the mirror and the top of the bracket. Make a mark in the holes of the bracket on the wall to know where you need to make the holes for the anchors on each side. You shouldn’t be outside of the length of the mirror.
- Using the drill bit that came with the anchors & screws, drill a hole directly straight into the marks you made. Be sure to dust off any excess dry wall. Insert the anchors in all the holes and make sure the insert is flat and even with the wall so the bracket can lay against it flat. Then, place your bracket over the holes perfectly. Drill in the screws to tightly secure the brackets on the wall. Make sure they’re even!
- Once your brackets are up, carefully place the shelf on top of the brackets, making sure it’s even with the mirror. Then, drill the tiny 3/4 inch screws in the bracket into the wood as someone holds down the shelf lightly as you drill up into the shelf. Be sure to tighten all the screws.
- Clean all the dust, tidy up, and decorate with all your makeup and cute things! Just don’t overload it and don’t put a ton of pressure on it. Even though it should hold up to 60 pounds, or even more depending on what kind of heavy duty anchors you bought, you don’t want to be so rough because makeup and all gets heavy alone! 💄
