THE CITY OF ROMANCE.
Oh. My. God. Till this day I think and dream about this place. I can talk about it for hours to anyone! Venice is a must-see for all personalities. You love food? Check. You love scenery? Check. You love water? Check. The list goes on! Venice is filled with everything you can think of and more... My husband and I went here for our honeymoon and we loved every single waking second of it... It’s everything.
What I loved
There is everything to love about this city. The fact that it’s built on wood over water is breathtaking. All the color among all the vintage buildings, the bridges you cross to get to other mini islands, the water taxis, the grand canal, the gondolas, and most of all, the smell of fresh and hot pizza and pasta at every turn. Venice has so much culture and charisma than you can imagine. I loved getting lost in all the tiny cracks of the city and using a physical map to get around. I enjoyed all the walkway entertainment of violinists, Italian bands, and so much more. I also loved how friendly the locals were... They were very welcoming and polite to all the tourists visiting the city, so that’s always a plus!
Food
Food was probably one of the million reasons why I love Venice. I'm a HUGE food lover, as you can tell, and my tastebuds were having a blast. I do not eat seafood, so I strictly ate pasta and pizza the whole time I was there and it was to die for. However, for you seafood lovers, the seafood there is the best my husband has ever had (he's had a lot of seafood)! We went to a ton of different places for lunch, dinner, and dessert, such as gelato and tiramisu (yum)! Below are a few of the places that I suggest to try while you are in Venice, Italy..
Antico Forno
Our first pizza in Venice and this place did it just right! You might have a hard time finding it, but it’s worth the adventure!
Majer
The photos say it all... This little takeaway restaurant was fantastic! It had a variety of pizzas to choose from and a lovely selection of Italy’s finest pastries!
Dal Moro’s Fresh Pasta To Go
This mini takeaway spot was one of my favorites. It had delicious pasta inside of Chinese takeout looking box and it was just so fun to eat (picturesque as well 😉). I loved how they literally made your pasta fresh and in front of you - it was a really cool thing to see! It’s about a 20 minute walk from St. Mark’s Square and it’s located in the cracks of Venice along mini canals and bridges!
Farini
This restaurant was like a Starbucks Cafe but for pizza. It was really modern and hip - I enjoyed the atmosphere and food a lot! You’ll find this along the hidden streets of Venice not too far from Anticon Forno! There are a lot of shopping boutiques near Farini, so grab a slice and go shopping!
Marchini Time
This is was a cute little place we found while roaming around the city looking for something to satisfy our sweet tooth. I had a delicious tiramisu here and my hubby enjoyed a yummy canolie! They had a variety of pastries and not to mention some tasty cappuccinos! 🍰☕️
La Lista
There was one night my husband and I were about to float to the sky from all the pasta and pizza we ate and so we decided to eat some American food. I had a great tasting burger and his steak was delicious as well!
What To Do
There are a variety of things to do in Venice... Getting lost in all the mini islands is just one! Besides eating, there are gondola tours, kayak tours, and lots of shopping! Before going to Italy I’ve read that gondola tours are “overrated” and a “waste of money.” In my opinion, it was beautiful, romantic, and an interesting way to travel around the grand canal! Majority of Venice is based around exploring and sightseeing. Enjoying the beauty of the ancient city and the structure of it. Crossing all the different and unique bridges, feeding the pigeons in St. Marks. Square, and seeing all the fun street entertainment.
Would I Go Back?
Heck yes I would! Ever since the day we left we have been thinking about this magical city. We will definitely go back to Venice maybe for our five year anniversary! We are both very happy with our honeymoon choice. We were originally planning on going to Santorini, Greece, but chose Venice last second and we did not regret it at all (Santorini is still on our bucket list)! I would recommend this to anyone who is deciding where to go for their honeymoon or to anyone who just needs a travel destination! If you haven't gone to Venice, Italy, be sure to put this place on your bucket list, because it is a city you cannot miss out on!
