My Everyday Makeup and Facial Products 💄
Alright, so I’m sort of a plain Jane when it comes to makeup - I don’t necessarily do anything extravagant unless I’m going to a party. However, that doesn’t mean I don’t like my everyday makeup to be on point! Just to give you all a little information before you read on, I typically have combination skin (both oily and dry). My skin is a little sensitive - I don’t like to use many products with fragrances or a ton of oils. I used to have acne-prone skin, so I try to be consistent with the products I use. I usually have a ton of questions about the makeup and products I use, so I thought it would be a good idea to write all about it! 😘💋 Anyway, let’s get down to business!
First Things First: Cleansing 🧖🏼♀️
The key to achieve the best look is to cleanse, cleanse, cleanse. It’s so important! I take cleansing very seriously since I’ve dealt with tough acne throughout my high school and college years. If you’re suffering from bad and unwanted acne, I HIGHLY suggest going to a dermatologist and asking to be on Accutane. It’s seriously a miracle drug - the best you can get for acne. It takes away your acne FOR GOOD. I’ve referred several people to it... Accutane has honestly changed my life.
Anyway, I wash my face twice a day: once when I wake up and right before bed. Then, I’ll apply moisturizer to keep my skin feeling hydrated and soft! My all-time favorite cleanser and moisturizer is by Cetaphil (pictured below). You can buy them at any drug store!
And of course, removing your makeup is extremely important. I’m not going to lie, sometimes this is the hardest thing for me to do and it’s sucks. I think a lot of you will agree! But I’ve been using the same Almay makeup remover wipes for years. They work well with my sensitive skin, they’re fragrant free, and they get the job done!
I absolutely love to do a face mask once in a while! My all-time favorite face mask has to be Mask of Magnaminty by LUSH. This mask feels so fresh and minty on your skin! It exfoliates flaky or dry skin, calms redness, and it also contains honey to soothe and moisturize your skin! It’s not too expensive and it lasts a while, depending on how often you do a mask. If I remember, I’ll do a mask once a week.
My Step by Step Makeup Routine
1. Face Primer
A lot of people skip out on this step, but I must say that I feel a big difference when I use it. My face looks much more smooth, my pores are not visible, and it makes it much easier to apply makeup. I have always used Smashbox primer! You can find a smaller bottle in the register line for a cheaper price. Great stuff. 😌
For the last few months I’ve been struggling to find the perfect foundation! For a very long time I used Estee Lauder’s Double Wear and I got sick of it. I felt like it was too thick for me and I needed something different. I experimented with the Huda Beauty foundation for a short time and I hated it. It was SO thick and super fragrant, plus I couldn’t find my perfect match. Then, I tried the Make Up Forever foundation and it was as thick as moisturizer. And finally, I found the perfect foundation that wasn’t too thick or thin and that is full-coverage with a natural finish: NARS Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation in shade Punjab. This foundation works great and it’s buildable as well! It’s full-coverage but doesn’t make me feel cakey whatsoever. It almost feels breathable! 😌
My favorite concealer ever would be the Tarte Tape Shape, hands down! I’ve never tried a better concealer to be honest. I use the shade Light-Medium Sand. The only annoying thing about it is that Sephora doesn’t sell it! You can find it at Ulta or you can order online straight from Tarte.com.
I’ve always used the same cream contour stick. Honestly, the product I use isn’t even meant for contouring, it’s actually a foundation stick by Maybelline! I’ve been using it for years and it works great. I just never had interest in trying something else because it always did the job really well! I usually try to find one of the darkest shades they have, such as the shade coconut.
My all-time favorite powder is the translucent powder by NARS. I love it because no matter if I’m tan for the summer or pale for the winter, it won’t be a problem. The color is translucent so it just mattifies your face and leaves a soft finish! I’ve been using this powder for about 4 years now. It lasts a very long time!
As for baking powder, I absolutely love the famous Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder. I only use this product if I’m going to a wedding or party. I don’t find that I need it in my everyday makeup routine.
I know a lot of people don’t use bronzer if they use a cream or liquid contour, but I still love to add it! I feel that it gives an even more radiant look to my contour. ☀️ I’ve been using the same brand Milani for a very long time in the shade Dolce. If I’m not mistaking, I believe ever since high school honestly. It’s a drugstore brand and it last for years. I don’t remember the last time I bought a new one! Definitely not in the last year and a half. And as for blush, I honestly don’t use any. I just never liked blush! 🤷🏻♀️
My favorite product of all! I seriously don’t know how I never used to wear highlighter. Like, I didn’t even know it existed until a couple years ago (whaaaaaat?!). 🤯 I’ve tried a few different highlighters: Too Faced, Tarte, and Fenty. I like all three, but my ALL-TIME FAVORITE must go to my girl Riri. Fenty Beauty highlighter in Lighting Dust/Fire Crystal is seriously the best thing that happened to me in my life. ✨
As I mentioned earlier, I’m more of a neutral kinda girl. You’d never see me wearing neon colored eyeshadow! I don’t have anything against it - I just feel I look terrible in anything that’s not neutral! So I go with soft colors, maybe some shades of pink and a couple dark shades (I must be boring). My favorite eyeshadow palette is Anastasia’s Soft Glam. I absolutely love the color coordination in the palette! It’s perfect for any look I’d want to go for.
If you know me, you know I absolutely love my wings! I have really big eyelids so if I don’t wear eyeliner I feel that I look super dead! But lately I’ve been trying to get myself used to not always having to wear eyeliner, even though I love it! My favorite eyeliner of all-time is definitely by Stila! It’s “stay all day” and waterproof liquid eyeliner, but it’s not like any liquid eyeliner. It’s almost like a sharpie marker with a super pointy and flexible tip, so it makes it unbelievably easy to do the perfect wing. Without this eyeliner, my wings would be broken! 😭
With mascara, I use an old-time favorite by L’Oreal. Yep, you guessed it! The L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara in Carbon Black! It’s seriously the best mascara I’ve tried and it’s drugstore!! 👌🏼
I don’t know what life was like before filling in my eyebrows. Honestly, if you’re not filling in your eyebrows, I don’t know what you’re doing tbh! Even if you have thick brows, filling them in simply defines the shape of them and gives you a more crisp finish. I don’t know how and WHY I used to not fill my brows in. It’s honestly a pet peeve of mine! 😅 FILL IN YOUR BROWS, WOMEN! I’ve used the same product for brows since I started filling them in - the wonderful Anastasia Brow Powder Duo in shade Medium Brown - Taupe. I love the brow powder more than the dip brow or gel ones because it’s not dramatic at all. I don’t want to look like I’ve filled in my eyebrows with a sharpie... I want them to look softly defined and this is exactly what the product does! I use a tiny and thin angled brush to apply it (details in the brush section at the bottom of the blog) and I absolutely love it. 😍
I absolutely love a matte lipstick. You’ll never see me wearing glossy lipstick! It’s just not for me. My favorite brands are Kat Von D and Kylie Cosmetics. Both of their liquid matte lipsticks are awesome! I notice that Kylie’s lipsticks stay on longer, but I wear my Kat Von D lipsticks more tbh. My all-time favorite shade and the lipstick I wear most often is Bow N Arrow by Kat Von D. Other shades I love by her are Lolita and Love Craft. And for my favorite Kylie Cosmetics lipsticks, I love the shades Dolce and Koko.
13. Setting Spray
Lastly, let’s not have all of our hard work go to waste. To put it all together, I love to use Urban Decay Setting Spray. It keeps my makeup lasting all night long! 💃🏻💋
For foundation, my all-time favorite brush is the Morphe M439 Deluxe Buffer Brush. It’s honestly the best brush I’ve ever used for foundation and I love it much more than a beauty blender. I always found beauty blenders tedious and just annoying. I use this brush for my foundation, concealer, and contour. It’s awesome and fairly cheap! You can find it at Ulta or even order it online.
For powder, bronzer, eyebrows, nose contouring, and highlight I use my Bh Cosmetics brush set. I also use a couple of their eyeshadow brushes. I really like this set! It works well and it’s pretty too! ☺️💕
For eyeshadow, which I’m most inexperienced with, I use a beginners set by Sephora that I find works really well! I don’t do anything wild with eyeshadow, so this set works perfectly for me.
I hope you found this helpful! After writing this blog, I realized how much money I spend on makeup ($482 before tax to be exact - yikes)! 😳😅 But in the end, it’s all worth it. Plus, these products last months to years, so it ain’t all that bad! 😉
