Can we just talk about how fast this year flew by?
It always seems that every year passes by fast, but 2018 passed by extremely fast! Looking back, I feel that I’ve had a great year overall. There were some major lessons here and there, but what happens is always meant to happen for a reason. Let’s talk about 2018!
I finished my first year of teaching in May! I think I had a very successful first year. I fell in love with teaching and fell even more in love with psychology...
My husband and I celebrated our one year anniversary May 7th, alhamdulillah!! ❤️
We had a wonderful Ramadan and Eid, alhamdulillah. It was filled with tons of family time, quality time, and tons of food of course!
I began Hijabeautiful in the summer! And I got really interested in baking and cooking since I was off work (which was awesome). I spent a lot of great time at home that was desperately needed.
I started my second year of teaching in August and I had a great first semester! I began a new subject for the first time ever at my school: Child Psychology. It’s super interesting and I’m even learning tons of stuff I never learned before! It’s really exciting and my students love it.
My favorite accomplishment this year was BEGINNING MY MASTERS PROGRAM!!! Alhamdulillah, I’m so happy I finally started grad school. My husband and I are in the same psychology program and it’s so much fun (and a lot of work)! My plan was to go straight after my undergrad but we got married and it didn’t feel like the right time. Alhamdulillah we both went back after our gap year!
Another great accomplishment of mine was finishing my second varsity volleyball season! The previous year we only won 3 games, but this year we won a total of 7 and we were placed 2nd in our conference!!! Super happy and excited about that. I’m happy I was able to really transform my talented girls, alhamdulillah.
Travels of 2018
Alhamdulillah my husband and I were able to travel a lot this year! It was a total blast. We are definitely explorers and love to travel. Also, it’s best to spend a lot of time traveling before you decide on having kids! 😉
In April, we took a trip to California for my birthday! It was super exciting even though we’ve both been there before we met. It’s always different when you travel with the one you love! We had a great time at Universal Studios on my birthday - it’s the best thing I could’ve asked for! We’re such kids at heart and we love that kinda stuff. We also went to the San Diego Zoo which was so much fun!
In May, my husband surprised me for our one year anniversary with a trip to Canada to see the Niagara Falls! It was such an amazing trip. We had so much fun alhamdulillah... It was the first time I’ve ever seen the falls! And let’s just say it was breathtaking and I wouldn’t have wanted to go with anyone else and at any other time than our one year anniversary. We also spent a couple days in Toronto to explore the city and every Tim Hortons you can think of, lol! It was tons of fun. Plus we got to stop through Detroit on the way back for shawarma!! Yum.
In August, for the first time ever, we decided on a tropical getaway! We thought we needed it by then since I’d go back to school soon. It was a perfect getaway and very much needed! We spent tons of time in the pool and at the beach. Oh and I got the worst farmers tan of my life!
Lastly, in November we took a road trip down to Gatlinburg, TN for a weekend getaway towards the end of first semester! We went Thanksgiving weekend and it was so perfect. After climbing the Rocky’s last year, we kind of fell in love with mountains. Alhamdulillah, it was blast!
Lessons of 2018
Of course, not everything of 2018 was amazing. There were downfalls like there is every year for everyone. This year, I learned a few good lessons. I had to learn to be more patient and I also learned that good things sometimes do come to an end.
Most of you know that my husband and I are currently house hunting, but you might have not known this is our second time around this year. In April and May we were shopping for a new home and we landed one that we absolutely loved! We were so set on it and we thought it was for sure ours, case closed. After a month of the closing process, it fell straight through our hands. It was a major disappointment and it was hard to deal with. But alhamdulillah everything happens for a reason! We began house hunting this month and inshallah we close on something we love this January. Prayers are welcomed! ☺️
All in all...
Overall, my 2018 was a good one. Alhamdulillah I’ve had tons of fun, made new friends, started new hobbies, and traveled with my best friend. There were lessons that I am thankful for and that has made me stronger, alhamdulillah. I hope that you all had a great year and inshallah 2019 is a wonderful year for all of us! I always wish happiness for everyone, no matter what. Make 2019 everything you want it to be. ❤️
